What's happened to Snyder's Pretzel Pieces?

As a man of significant girth, snacking is crucial to maintaining my physique. Recently I've noticed that the GOAT of snacks isn't in stock in my local Tesco. So I slid in some Twitter DMs to find out what had gone on...

Update from Snyder's...

On 29th February 2024, I contacted Snyder's for an update about when their delicious pieces of pretzels would be available in the UK again. Snyder's replied...

"No update as of yet. We'll share your interest with our team."

They don't care that the UK is in an absolute mess due to the lack of Snyder's (and a shite govt.). And what does 'share your interest' even mean?

'Oh, look at this message. Some div in the UK wants a bag of pretzel pieces.'

'What an idiot.'

Read on to hear about my original ordeal...

A man bows down to a packet of Snyder's Jalapeno Pretzel Pieces
Snyder's Jalapeno Pretzel Pieces: you truly are the king of snacks

If you've never had a bag of Snyder's of Hanover's Pretzel Pieces, specifically the jalapeno flavour, you won't understand how much of a travesty it is that I can't find a packet.

Snyder's Jalapeno Pretzel Pieces have helped me through hangovers, made miserable days mediocre and been my go-to snack of choice for ages.

So imagine my shock, my despair and the pain that was caused when I went to Tesco one day in July and they weren't there. Yes, the Honey Mustard and Onion flavour was next to them, but that's like Man City offering me a contract when they realised they weren't going to sign Harry Kane.

I kept an eye on things for a while, often going to the trouble of changing my route to the checkouts to have a look at whether the bags of pretzel-perfection had been restocked. They hadn't. Things were getting so bad that the lesser Honey Mustard and Onion flavour was going down because people so desperately craved a bag of Snyder's...

Then, there was light at the end of the tunnel. A little shelving card appeared to say 'Back in Stock August 27th.' What a way to enter a bank holiday weekend, with Snyder's back in stock after such a heartwrenching absence.

I didn't go on Friday the 27th, I don't want to appear too keen - Snyder's hurt me by deserting me, and I wasn't ready to rush back to them. Anyway, I went to Tesco early on Saturday (28th) morning and there were no Snyder's available. Was it some sort of sick joke?

Why aren't Snyder's Pretzel Pieces available in Tesco?

Anyway, we're two weeks into September now and there's still no sign of Snyder's. So, earlier this week, I messaged Tesco on Twitter to see what had happened to Snyder's Pretzel Pieces. The response was sad...

Josh, who messaged back from Tesco's Twitter account told me:

"Unfortunately I've been advised that we have actually stopped stocking this entirely. I'm really sorry about this but I hope you can find somewhere near you that does stock it."

"Actually stopped stocking this entirely." What a way to kick a man when he's down. Not only does my local Tesco not plan on restocking Snyder's, but no Tesco does...

When will Snyder's jalapeno pretzel pieces be back in the UK?

Understandably, this didn't sit well with me, so I went to the source of my pain and pleasure, the purveyors of pretzel pieces, Snyder's of Hanover.

Snyder's told me:

"We recently made the decision to make changes to our recipe and have paused exporting to UK. As a result, our Pretzel Pieces are currently not available for purchase in stores. We make our pretzels with pride and are committed to being back in the UK soon."

A bit of comfort from Snyder's response - they'll be coming back. I'm a bit worried about the 'decision to make changes to our recipe' bit. Lucozade 'made changes' to the orange Lucozade recipe and it went to crap, the same with Irn Bru.

Please, Snyder's, don't dick about too much with the pretzel pieces...

As for when Snyder's of Hanover's Pretzel Pieces will return, who knows, but at least they'll be back...
